Positano and Amalfi, on the Amalfi Coast, Italy - May 22 2010

Positano was the first of our two stops on the Amalfi coast. Although the coast was definitely beautiful, there was something left to be desired--probably due to a combination of the fact that we had very high expectations for the coast as well as the fact that we had just come from Oia and the Greek islands. These pictures seem to show the towns off better than they look in real life (in our opinions anyway!). In real life the houses were a bit grubbier and the towns gave off a generally more dirty feel.

A view of the coast as we travel towards Positano on the bus from Sorrento.

See how the road is built right into the side of the cliff! The lanes were very narrow and every time the bus would turn a corner it would have to honk its horn to let oncoming vehicles know of its presence. And when two busses would meet, it would be like a sort of "bus tango"! It made for some scary driving!

Two shots of Positano.

Another shot of Positano with the coastline in the background.

Guess what? It's another view of Positano!

Highly attractive male models showing off this store's clothes. Note the chest hair, white teeth, as well as their perfectly coifed 'dos!

A view of Positano from the bottom of the town.

A sister of the monstrous red peppers we showed you in Sorrento, here are some gargantuan lemons!

A very cute fruit and vegetable stand outside a little market. Look at all the sundried tomatoes and hot peppers!

Here is a shot of the breakwater protecting the end of the harbour in Amalfi.

Here's another shot of the rest of the harbour of Amalfi from the top of the breakwater!

A beautiful shot of Amalfi (if we say so ourselves :P).

Yet another shot of Amalfi.

A different view of Amalfi from the top of the breakwater.

In Amalfi there was this very large church, complete with grand, austere staircase leading up to the entrance. There was actually a wedding in session that day. We got stuck at the top of the stairs when the bride was coming up. Needless to say it took her a while to get to the top. She and the wedding party had to climb the stairs while gawking tourists took photos. Not exactly our idea of a perfect wedding ceremony!

Random street shot!

This fountain in Amalfi has two little mountains with little people stuck all over them! Aside from being on the "mountains" they were all under the water too!

The beach at Amalfi.

On the side of this cliff (on one end of Amalfi) there is a roadway which we walked on to get to the far point. The water was so beautiful and the weather was so hot that day we almost jumped over the cliff!

Although they don't compare to the VW Beetle, Stefan loves these cute little old FIATs. They're so tiny they look like little pedal cars made for kids!

The return bus ride on the Amalfi coast. During this part of the bus ride we passed through many lemon orchards (though unfortunately we didn't get any photos of them...).
